FAMILY FUNDAY - MARCH 2018
The Family Fun was a great success, attracting over 200 visitors. The aim of the fun afternoon was to raise funds for the local community; and provide lots of activities and entertainment for all ages to enjoy.
Cuisine and intricate delicacy items from around the world, including India, Africa and Middle East, were available for guests to enjoy. Asian homemade mouth-watering curries and samosas, exotic Arabic dishes like vine leaves and kanafeh, hibiscus, hot Arabic coffee, Turkish kebabs, chicken rice and lots more. For the sweet toothed there were plenty of cake stalls selling homemade cupcakes, brownies, lemon meringue and other delicious desserts.
The henna stall particularly attracted a crowd with many waiting eagerly for their turn to have their hands decorated with intricate Arabic patterns. Another highlight of the afternoon was the face-painting stall, where butterflies, superheroes, animals and glittery eye masks were few of the designs in demand.
Despite the snowfall the event was well attended and the local community came together to show their support. People came from as far as Croydon and London to enjoy the fun filled afternoon which also included a tombola, nearly new stall, balloon modelling, arts and crafts, various clothes and scarf stalls, Essex raw honey, sweet stall, chocolate fountain, Egyptian artifacts, calligraphy workshop, basic health check stall, arts and craft stalls, and traditional stalls. Due to the bad weather, some of the outdoor planned activities such as beat the goalie, bouncy castle and adult/children races had to be cancelled. Instead, they were replaced with indoor stalls, colouring competitions, pasta crafts and other activities.

BULLIED FOR MY BELIEFS TALK FEBRUARY 2018
With Childline’s experimental data showing a 69% increase in ‘racist’ playground bullying and common terms identified being ‘suicide bomber’, and ‘terrorist’, it is imperative that our children recognise Islamophobia and are equipped on how to handle it. To support the children of our community we invited MEND (mend.org.uk) to do a short talk on the subject on Saturday 3rd February.
MEND delivered a very insightful and engaging talk which was well received and we hope all those attended learnt how to identify and deal with Islamophobia.
